Who is Earwax Away Thanet?
My name is Kathryn Butcher and I am a qualified, experienced Microsuction earwax removal specialist. I love what I do, which some people find unusual, but it is a great feeling knowing I have made a difference, as one patient said to me following treatment, “how many lives do you get to change in a week”?
I am a fully trained and experienced ear wax clinician and have been working locally with a highly regarded local audiology practice for the last five years. I am passionate about the services I offer and care that I provide, delivering the best experience and the best outcome for my patients. There are no rushed appointments, with plenty of explanation and information provided and patients are always reassured at all times, throughout.
It’s a great privilege to be able to share my knowledge and advice on ear care, and I never tire of knowing that I've been able to make a positive impact.

Earwax Removal
Some people may be familiar with having wax removal previously at their GP surgeries, usually receiving syringing treatment. For others this may be their first experience of having wax that requires professional treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take?
The appointment time allocated to you is a full hour. Not all appointments require a full hour but in order to provide a comprehensive service, in a relaxed environment, this time is allocated to you.
It enables plenty of time for a full consultation where you will be invited to ask any questions. A brief, relevant, medical history will be taken along with a visual examination of your ear canal. Recommended treatments will be discussed fully before any treatment commences.
Most treatments are completed within this time but occasionally you may be offered a further appointment to complete treatment. If a follow up appointment is required, the appointment will be offered to you at no additional cost.
Is it uncomfortable?
I encourage the use of some olive oil ear drops a couple of days prior to your scheduled treatment, this should help to soften the wax. Removing hard and dry compacted earwax can be a more difficult process so, a little oil can assist with this.
Every person I see is treated as an individual, and I ensure that the experience is comfortable, and you remain in control at all times. If you'd feel more comfortable having a friend or family member at your side, they are most welcome to attend.
Is it safe?
Every procedure carries some risk. Microsuction is considered to be very low risk when carried out by an experienced, trained professional. It is far safer and generally more pleasant than the traditional syringing treatment although it can be a little noisy.
We may offer some irrigation treatment, if this would be helpful, providing there are no contraindications for the use of a water based treatment. This is a low pressure ear wash.
